Arsenal 5-1 Lyon: Beth Mead holds hilarious sign after Ballon d’Or 'guest' gaffe
Beth Mead produced a masterclass against European champions Lyon, just two days after finishing second in the Women’s Ballon d’Or.
The Arsenal star scored twice, including a stunning free-kick as the Gunners defeated the French side 5-1 in their opening group game of the Women’s Champions League.
Mead, who was named the Player of the Match, went over to the travelling Arsenal fans after the time and picked out a sign that a member of the crowd was holding.
At the Ballon d’Or ceremony, Mead was snapped on the red carpet alongside girlfriend Vivianne Miedema, who also plays for the Gunners.
Yet, the caption described her only as a nameless "guest”, sparking multiple people to react online.
Miedema screenshotted the photo and posted it on her own personal Twitter, alongside the caption: "Happy I got to take my guest yesterday @bmeado9.”
